Has Your Child Outgrown Their Golf Club?

Your child has grown. Check the club they use today with a simple record of their height, club size and next step.

Quick answer

Your child has grown. Does their golf club still fit? Before buying the next size, check their current height against the fitting guide for the club they use. Start with the child holding it today.

Check the club you already have

Find the brand, model and size on the club or in your order details. Take a photo of the label so you can look up the right guide. If you have a mixed set, note each club separately.

Measure your child using the instructions in that manufacturer's guide. For example, U.S. Kids Golf asks parents to measure with shoes on. Follow the directions for the equipment you own rather than carrying one brand's size labels over to another.

Our kids' golf club sizing guide can help you get started. Keep the current manufacturer's chart beside you when checking a particular club.

Look beyond the size label

Length is one part of fit. The PGA of America's junior equipment guide also asks parents to consider club weight, shaft flexibility and grip size.

If your child has grown beyond the height range shown for their club, ask the manufacturer or a junior coach about the next size. If the chart still places them in the same size but the club feels awkward, bring it along for a fit check before ordering a replacement.

Tell the coach what you have noticed, and let them see your child use the club. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis.

Keep a quick record

Save this in your phone or print it for the next time you check:

Next step

This is a place to keep your notes, not a fitting test. It also gives you something specific to bring to a lesson or send with a sizing question.

Choose the next step

Keep using it: If the club fits and there is no concern to resolve, a new model arriving in the shop is not a reason to replace it.

Ask for help: If the size label is missing, the club has been altered or the guidance is unclear, check with the manufacturer or a junior coach.

Choose a replacement: Once you know a different size is needed, use the fitting guidance for that replacement. If it is a driver, our guide to choosing a kids' golf driver walks through that decision.

Keep the check short. The point is to get your child back to enjoying golf with you, with equipment that suits them now.

Questions parents ask

Does a birthday mean my child needs a bigger golf club?

Check their current height against the fitting guide for the club they use before choosing another size.

What if I cannot find the club size?

Take a photo of its label and ask the manufacturer or a junior coach to help identify it.
